to those taking their chinese o's tmr - all the best and don't stress! ours last year was
hard so tmr's papers should be easier lo.
to me, smokers are really selfish! i think even a kid knows that passive smoking is more dangerous than smoking itself. then people still smoke, endangering the lives of the people around them.
and it's so dumb!
i'll never understand why people want to smoke and make themselves so smelly. they're practically like a walking cigarette cos they smell like one. everyone knows a smoker when they smell one!
everytime i spot a smoker i feel like shoving a bio textbook under his (or her) nose and show him (or her) yucky photos of crappy lungs and blood vessels of a smoker. maybe they don't mind dying of lung cancer or coronary heart diseases or bronchitis or whatever.
having withdrawal symptoms is hard to bear, but it's definitely not as painful as getting diagnosed with lung cancer. you'll have extreme difficulties breathing, you'll cough out blood, your hair will drop, you'll lose your appetite, you'll lose too much weight, you may even die if you don't go for treatment.
in other words, smoking sucks. think twice before lighting the cigarette. i'm anti-smoking all the way!

i had a nightmare last night.
i dreamt that mr tang wrote "i am your *** (blurred)" on the back of shum's and another theatre girl's (elaina?) handphones. then i heard a shrill laughter and i woke up shaking violently from head to toe, with the laughter ringing in my head.
it was horrible!
anyway, did you see the clouds this morning?
at around 6.20am, i was walking down a dark and quiet slope from my house to the bus-stop. i looked up at the sky to the right and my heart almost skipped a beat.
the sky was slightly light blue, but not that light as it was still very early. and looming in it were massive chunks of black clouds.
solid black clouds. like a obvious silhouette against the blue. i was reminded of tan swie hian's panther painting, which was in solid black ink. though it was a taboo in chinese art, it definitely was chilling and mysterious. indeed, the toneless clouds struck fear in me, and the nightmare was still pretty fresh in my mind then.
it was the FIRST time i didn't really feel happy looking at the morning sky. but it was, like moses, a dark attraction. i couldn't help turning my head upwards in awe, and then looking down quickly with fear.
but then as i proceeded to the overhead bridge, i gazed at the left side of the sky. it was in a darker blue than of the right. the clouds were white and dispersed. a luminous and yellow gibbous moon smiled down at me. a tiny and shiny celestial object caught my eye. as it was flickering, i deduced that it was a star.
a lone star.
the left side and the right side were so different i couldn't believe they shared the same sky.
as for the scary black clouds, they turned greyer with tone when i reached school. but i was still deeply fascinated by it. the njc people don't know how blessed they are, to be able to stroll to their school building every morning across the treeless track with a large patch of sky in front of them to admire. for us, there are just so many weird things around that obstruct our view of the sky.
after lurking in the sky for so long, the huge grey clouds finally poured us a few minutes of rain. i tell you it was damn cool. it happened during english lesson at 11+ am when someone exclaimed that it was raining outside our classroom but not yet outside 4/13 and other sec3 classes! the rain came down so slowly that we could see a side with it and another side without it, separated by the shelter to the science block classrooms.
coooool.
okayy. this is a long post on sky and cloud and rain! hehh.

to me, failing subjects are like wearing braces. at first it's painful. but as time goes on, more or less i'll be unaffected by it.
like, a
heck-care attitude.
evidencehelen: hey dot! how did you do for your midyears?
me: *cheerfully* i failed amath and chem lor!
helen: and you still look so happy!?
you see you see! haiii. at least helen commented that amath is failable. yay.
i'm not wow-ed by my results. but i can't say i'm completely disappointed either. my marks are actually considered quite okay because i
i. only started revision a few days before exams (look at my bio!)
ii. was sick a week before and during exams (esp. on the 1st day!)
iii. did not feel the stress and adrenaline rush i normally feel before exams.
but i love midyears! yayyy!
to a certain extent.because midyears make me panic and regret and so i'll study harder for prelims, which are going to be HARD. so funn.

boo. i failed amath. at first it was an E8 but the teacher marked wrongly so it jumped to D7. yayy.
let me tell you what happened during the checking of our papers.
during the in-between everyone was basically slacking and waiting for the english papers to come. faith decided to tell us a joke. it wasn't funny at all, only a bit the -_-" but i laughed and laughed until my face turned as red as a tomato. even redder than the sunburnt wanyi and rachsim! and tears kept rolling down. they were quite amused by my outburst of laughter and tears lar.
i think it was due to lack of sleep then.
or maybe i was just letting out all the stress that had accumulated.
sarah was right. laughter is definitely a better de-stressing tool than scolding people.

damn the stupid aedes bloodsucker.my dad has dengue! platelet count: 75 only! in case you are wondering, there are 4 serotypes of dengue fevers. if you think it's like chicken pox, which occurs once in a lifetime (if you don't count shingles), you are wrong! if you get a secondary infection (serotype 2 - dengue haemorrhagic fever), it'd probably be more fatal than the first one.
that's why i'm worried for my mum too.
that was why i was so scared of getting it during my fever. because if i did, i'd probably have missed more than half of midyears! scary scary~
and in case you don't take bio, platelets are those thingys in your blood that clots your blood by releasing enzymes when damaged. they prevent bacteria infection and over-loss of blood. so if your platelet count is low, there's a higher possibilty to either bleed to death or get infected by even more dangerous bacteria when there's a wound.
dear heavenly Father, please heal my dad with Your holy hands. amen.

let me tell you a story.
once upon a time, there was this girl who had
16 chapters of biology to study for her exam. but she had another paper before that, so she studied for that useless subject instead. on the day before her exam, she panicked for she had only studied 2 chapters. thus, she decided to
speed-read the textbook. along the way, she was msging away with her
encouraging classmate to spur each other on to study more. by 11.40pm, she had 10 chapters left while her friend had 8.5. how encouraging to know that someone understood her
desperate plight. by the next day, she had only 7 chapters left. she scanned through the
summaries of the remaining chapters and just
handed everything into the hands of her Lord. amazingly, her 2 papers went pretty smoothly and she could do most of the questions (with the exception of a respiration SEQ which she did not study at all). although she had no faith of doing well, she admitted that it was indeed a
miracle. btw she was still smiling after the papers.
end of story.

friday the thirteenth!personally, i don't like it when people claim that they stand alone in this world and lead a life full of angst when what they do not realise is that they have a whole bunch of people, friends or family, who really support and care for them. it's when they start losing these people, by separation or by death (
sheng li si bie), then they'll be slapped awake by reality and
cry for the painful loss. absence makes the heart fonder indeed. and all these lead to the common-est phrase you hear, "treasure the people around you".
i feel a need to treasure my classmates, i really do. and i'll tell myself to try hard. i don't want to leave the school with regrets of not doing so and feel the desolation and loss in the absence of these people. when i was in sec2, i took my fellow 2/1ers for granted, and wasted time away. before i realised, it was end of the year and time to separate. it's true when people say that "you'd only miss the water until it's gone".
i cried really hard on the last day of school.
it was 'cause i started to regret and miss them.
i don't want that to happen again. i want to walk out of nanyang not taking the people who care for granted. i will tell myself - i am not alone!
and to you, you and you. maybe it's time to stop complaining and start treasuring.
